Is It Time to Replace Your Home’s AC?

Fortunately for Floridians, air conditioning units tend to last a long time. However, they do not last forever. While many Orlando air conditioning issues can be fixed with routine maintenance and repairs, eventually, it will be time for a replacement. Here are some of the signs that it’s about that time:

Home Renovation

When your house was built, the HVAC system was specifically purchased with your home’s layout in mind. Therefore, if you make adjustments to this layout, you may need to look into a different type of system. In most cases with home remodeling, some rooms tend to get more AC than other rooms. This is worth considering in terms of what you decide to do to your home and whether it’s time to purchase a newer, more powerful HVAC unit.

High Power Bills

In Florida, high power bills in the summer are a given. However, if you notice your monthly bill climbing higher and higher with no change on your end, it might be time to replace the unit.  Before deciding it’s time to throw out your system and replace the whole thing, there are a couple steps you can take. First, change your air filters regularly. If that does not fix it, see if a simple repair could be a better option.

Frequent Repairs

Toward the end of your air conditioning system’s life, you may find that it needs repairs more often than it works. Keep in mind, in addition to the money you are paying for repairs, you are likely causing a hike in your power bills by overworking a dying system. If the overall cost for repairs exceeds $5,000, it’s time to move on. At the end of the day, replacing the system will cost less money than attempting to prolong the inevitable.

Ready to Upgrade

There is nothing wrong with wanting newer technology in your house, and in most cases, newer electronics are more efficient. In your home, where you spend most of your time, it is understandable to want to be comfortable. If that means upgrading from a unit with a sliding thermometer to one with a touch screen, so be it. The more you can customize the settings in an HVAC unit, the less energy you will be wasting. While the upfront cost can be expensive, chances are, you will save money in the long run.
